Plant Tissue: Basic Concept और Meristematic Tissue का Introduction

Plant Tissue

Relationship

Broad Classification

Meristematic Tissue

Permanent Tissue

Introduction

Definition

Concept: Meristematic tissue = Active Cell Division + New Cell Formation + Plant Growth

Meristematic Cells की प्रमुख Characteristics

Shape

Cell Wall

Cytoplasm

Nucleus

Vacuoles

Intercellular Spaces

Meristematic Cell

Small cells → cells comparatively

Thin wall → primary wall generally thin

Dense cytoplasm → cytoplasm comparatively dense

Prominent nucleus → nucleus clearly developed

Small vacuoles → large central vacuole generally absent

Compact arrangement → intercellular spaces

Active Cell Division

Meristem → Cell Division → New Cells → Growth → Differentiation → Permanent Tissue

Meristematic Tissue का Importance

Classification

Type Main Position Main Role Example
Apical Root और shoot के apex Length/primary growth Root apical meristem
Lateral Stem/root की lateral sides Increase in girth Vascular cambium, cork cambium

Apical Meristem

Example: Root apical meristem और shoot apical meristem।

Intercalary Meristem

Lateral Meristem

Basic Concept

Primary Meristem

Secondary Meristem

Basic Difference: Primary meristem मुख्यतः primary growth और early plant development से जुड़ा होता है, जबकि secondary meristem मुख्यतः later growth और increase in girth से related होता है।

Meristematic Tissue की Identification के Important Points

  • Cytoplasm comparatively dense
  • Nucleus generally prominent
  • Vacuoles

Simple Formula

Root Tip

Root Tip

Root Cap → Growing tip की protection

Root Apical Meristem → Active cell division

Zone of Elongation → Cells की length बढ़ती है

Zone of Maturation → Cells differentiate होकर mature होती हैं

Organization

Shoot Apical Meristem

Developing Leaf Primordium

↘      ↓      ↙

Young Shoot Apex / Shoot Apical Meristem

Developing Stem Axis

↘      ↙

Leaf and Axillary Bud Development

Tunica-Corpus Organization

Point Root Apical Meristem Shoot Apical Meristem
Protection Root cap से associated Young leaf primordia द्वारा surrounding protection
Associated structure Root cap, elongation और maturation regions Leaf primordia और axillary bud development

Meristematic Cells

Cell Division

Growth and Differentiation

Specialized Permanent Cells

Basic Nature

इसलिए basic rule को reduced or normally absent meristematic activity के रूप में समझना अधिक accurate है।

Permanent tissues

Basic Classification

Permanent Tissue

Simple Permanent Tissue

Versatile Tissue

Functions

Aerenchyma

Aerenchyma में comparatively large and well-developed air spaces होती हैं।

Collenchyma

Distribution

Mechanical Role

Sclerenchyma

Forms

Fibres

Sclereids

Feature Parenchyma Collenchyma Sclerenchyma
Cell status Living Living Generally dead at maturity
Cell wall Generally thin primary wall Unevenly thickened primary wall Very thick secondary wall
Lignification Generally absent Generally absent Usually prominent
Intercellular spaces Often present Usually very small or absent Usually very small or absent
Main role Storage, photosynthesis and other metabolic functions Flexible mechanical support Strong and rigid mechanical support
Typical occurrence Cortex, pith, mesophyll, fruits आदि Young stems, petioles, leaf margins आदि Mature supporting regions, fibres, seed coats, nutshells आदि

Complex Permanent Tissue

Phloem Organic food Food translocation

Xylem: Water और Minerals का Transport System

Xylem Parenchyma

Tracheids

Vessels

Xylem Fibres

Xylem Parenchyma

Xylem

Water conduction
Xylem fibres Thick, lignified walls Mechanical support
Xylem parenchyma Living cells Storage और radial transport

Phloem fibres

Sieve Tubes और Sieve Elements

Companion Cells

Phloem Parenchyma

Phloem Fibres

Sieve tubes Sieve tube elements से बनी conducting pathway Food translocation
Companion cells Living, metabolically active cells Sieve elements को support करना
Phloem parenchyma Living cells Storage और related transport
Phloem fibres Thick-walled fibres Mechanical support

Xylem Phloem
Living/dead nature Conducting elements सामान्यतः dead at maturity Main conducting elements living होते हैं, पर nucleus absent होता है

Tissues

Mechanical Tissue

Flexible support

Mechanical tissues plant

Flexible Support

Collenchyma

Cell nature Living
Wall Primary wall, unevenly thickened
Intercellular spaces
Main role Flexible mechanical support

Collenchyma का Distribution

Mechanical Function

Rigid Mechanical Support

Sclerenchyma

Sclerenchyma

Sclereids

Fibres Sclereids
Examples Stem और vascular tissues में fibres Seed coat, nutshell, pear pulp

Sclerenchymatous Fibres

Sclereids

एक आसान distinction: Collenchyma को flexible support of growing parts और Sclerenchyma को strong, rigid support of mature parts से जोड़कर समझना उपयोगी है।

Collenchyma Sclerenchyma
Wall Unevenly thickened primary wall Thick secondary wall
Main role Flexible mechanical support Rigid mechanical strength

Mechanical Support

Young stem Collenchyma Flexible support

Mechanical Tissue

Living cells + uneven wall thickening Collenchyma
Very thick + lignified walls Sclerenchyma
Long, narrow supporting cells Sclerenchymatous fibres
Hard, irregular/variable-shaped cells Sclereids

Xylem

Mechanical tissues

Meristematic Tissue → Cell Division → Differentiation → Permanent Tissue → Specialized Functions

Conclusion

Kaushal Sir Advice
